The China Data Journalism Competition was established in 2015 with the aim of promoting construction and the teaching reform of the discipline journalism in chinese colleges. More than 4,500 contestants from hundreds of colleges and universities including Tsinghua University, Peking University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Fudan University, Nanjing University and dozens of media units signed up, and the quantity and quality of works reached a new high. After the initial evaluation, re-evaluation and online voting, 100 teams from 59 universities and media organizations were admitted to the finals. In the final, 10 first prizes, 20 second prizes, 30 third prizes and 40 excellent prizes were selected, among which the works of our school were listed.
It is reported that the third prize-winning work of our school, The seniors have become Internet celebrities, awesome! is based on the optimization of the coursework of “Data Journalism and Visualization” lectured by Prof.Hou Ying of the Department of New Media. In terms of graphic design, the team combined accurate and traceable data with images that conform to visual preferences, so that readers can easily understand complex data in news and quickly obtain the core information. The work used creative design graphics and illustrations, and also integrated interactive elements to achieve a harmonious, concise, and easy-to-read visualization effect. Overall, participating in this competition is a necessary attempt for the exploration of the training process of all-media talents and for the construction of media science discipline in our school.
