Established on September 14, 2016, the School of Journalism and Communication is one of the youngest and most dynamic schools of Shandong University which boasts a history of more than one hundred years. As one of the first ten key construction projects supported by the Publicity Department of the CPC committee and the Ministry of Education, it has currently formed a complete talent training system, cultivating numerous undergraduates, postgraduates, doctors and postdoctoral talents.

Adhering to the student-centered approach, following the requirement of “Outstanding Media Personnel Training Plan 2.0” and making full use of the support from the government and the profound cultural heritage of Shandong University, our school is committed to fostering talented journalists with compound knowledge structures, comprehensive media skills, international perspectives and innovative abilities.

At present, our school enrolls about 100 freshmen majoring in journalism every year from senior high graduates learning liberal arts or science. Our school’s journalism major set for undergraduates has been honored as "the first-class undergraduate major on national level". In the process of talent cultivation, we pay attention to the professional ethics education, mobilize all the teachers to participate in the teaching reform, execute “double tutors”system(double tutor consists of a school teacher and a journalism practitioner), push back the frontiers of science and technology, carry out experiment courses, and expand internship platforms to promote students' practical abilities and enhance our talent training level. Our teaching staff actively participate in the provincial education reform project and have won many honors which include the provincial teaching achievement award. Some young teachers got prizes in the teaching competitions, and many others won the title of “Excellent Mentors”. Our students also have wonderful performance in domestic competitions and a typical example is the national college students advertising competition. More than 50% graduates choose to further their studies at home and abroad. Many of them work for the mainstream media, government organs, well-known enterprises and new media companies.
